About Ryan

An Iowa native, Ryan is a farmer, farrier and avid outdoorsman. In addition to his formal degrees from Luther College (biology) and Montana State University Horseshoeing School, Ryan has spent years learning the things he loves first-hand, as a member of a trail crew in the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness Area, as a canoe guide in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota, as an elk guide north of Yellowstone National Park, as a ranch hand on the grazing allotments of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, and as a successful farrier serving a range of clients in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming. Needless to say, beef and pork have always shared the freezer with elk, venison and antelope.
At home again in Iowa, Ryan brings a variety of skills to Grass Run Farm, which he founded with his wife, Kristine. He particularly loves working with other small farmers to improve our neighborhood and regional market, talking with clients about quality meat, and hunting deer, pheasant and turkey with his dad and brothers.
